About ME!

Hi, I’m Katelyn Shonborn—a director, visual storyteller, and production designer based in Los Angeles. My work lives at the intersection of aesthetics and emotion, often exploring identity, mental states, and the blurry lines between perception and reality. I’m drawn to complex women characters, genre-bending narratives, and finding beauty in the unsettling.

As a director, I’m hands on and collaborative, with a background in art direction that informs my visual style and attention to detail. I’ve led short films from script to final cut, managing crews, working closely with actors, and building cohesive visual worlds with intention and style.

On the production design side, I love crafting and making environments that feel as emotionally layered as the characters inside them. I’ve worked in art departments across a range of indie projects, always bringing a grounded, resourceful, and design forward approach to the table.

I’m equally inspired by moody thrillers and sparkly teen dramas, and I believe every frame is an opportunity to say something.
